A SPECIAL EDITION
“Je suis deux cheveux”. Lizzie, my beloved car from yesteryear, has gone electrique, as one of the historic bastions of automotive style has revved its digital pencils: Citroen introduced many much loved and equally maligned quirks to car design in its history, but nothing did more for my fluttering heart chambers than a trio of baguettes and a bottle of Cidre Pomme Jacque sitting on the backseat of one of their 2CV. A car with a roll top so effortlessly cool that it puts all laptop bags to shame. In two years, so presumably in 2028, there will be an electric version of old 2CV. And if you really wanted to get into the croissant delivery business, there is also an electric commercial van concept of the ancienne Fourgonette. The internet has the images from the 2026 Paris Motor Show, and I heartily recommend a look.
The 2CV is a car that is hard not to have an opinion on. Even in its hayday, it competed on feels, not numbers. And it rumbled many an etiquette question: style or substance, flush or flourish, analog or antiquated, quirky or frivolous?
Yes indeed. Magnifique!
